Ballet Fundamentals Program: Levels 1-3, ( ages 7+ )
About Levels 1-3
LEVEL 1, age 7+
Introduces students to the discipline of ballet and its amazing technique. Each class begins on the floor in order to understand bone structure, turnout and posture. Next they learn basic elements of the barre (plie, dégagé, grand battement). Finally, basic steps (polka, chasse, tombe, pas de bourre) are introduced center floor. Students have the opportunity to perform twice a year: in Ballet Minnesota’s Classic Nutcracker in December, and in the Minnesota Dance Festival in the spring.
LEVEL 2 A&B, age 8+
Builds upon the foundation of Level 1. The barre work is expanded and refined. New terminology is introduced as well as expanded time center floor. Special exercises designed to teach posture, increase classical strength and macke students aware of how the body works are continued while lying on the floor. More combinations of simple steps center floor are introduced. Level 2 students perform in Ballet Minnesota’s Classic Nutcracker in December and the Minnesota Dance Festival in the Spring
LEVEL 3, age 10+
The final year of Beginning Ballet culminates with an introduction to Pointe Technique. Floor work is still a vital part of the class leading to strength and a functional understanding of how the body works. Combinations of steps are introduced into Adagio, Petite Allegro and Grand Allegro with a continued emphasis on the basic foundations of dance: Posture, Turn-out, Musicality, Port de bras and Kinesiology and performance. Level 3 students perform twice a year.
